Saturday, in the park

Went to archery with Ralph yesterday. Although he had been looking forward to the class, once he got there he only stayed with them for a few shots. Then he got distracted by some kids who had set a hula-hoop flat on the grass & were using it as a distance target. Since this was a new type of shooting for him (aiming at something flat on the ground at a distance rather than at a vertical target much closer) he of course headed over & joined them instead. He was the first one in the group to have his arrow land in the hula-hoop! Since most of these kids have been doing archery for years & Ralph has only had a few weeks at it, he was very pleased with himself.

It was rather cold (somewhere in the low 50's), therefore I chose to knit instead of spin since I can do that while wearing my wristwarmers. Spinning is more awkward as the fiber wants to cling to the knitted fabric. I cast on for a second pterodactyl using worsted weight & US 6 needles as opposed to the sock weight & US 3s that I used for the first one. It's such a fun, quick project--I already have all the pieces knit & stuffed. All that's left is to sew them together.

Afterwards we finished up the Christmas shopping for his family. Today I am going to go out & get the last few things for our friends, and also for Ralph's stocking. We decided not to exchange gifts with my family other than Cris & Paige, and even with each other we are only doing stockings, not big gifts. Makes for kind of a sad Christmas, really, but economically it makes sense.

And the last picture for today is PC's new shawl. Didn't it come out wonderfully well? She is very happy with it, and who can blame her? It is indeed a thing of beauty.
